Green New Year

Miami-Dade County needs bold, equitable climate action that will protect us all, especially the young Black and Latiné working-class Miamians being pushed out by politicians and developers. For too long, our communities have been plagued with unaffordable housing, a culture of disconnection and distrust reinforced by our lack of easily-accessible third spaces, and the constant worry that flooding, hurricanes, and unbearable heat could arrive during any given week. Sunrise Miami’s “Green New Year” is a space for you to not only meet us but also other young people in South Florida interested in creating a movement to build power and demand more climate and environmental justice solutions. In order to be ready to create demands and push our local officials, we have to be ready to trust each other and ourselves in our communities, hence “community event title.” You’ll be able to learn about Sunrise Miami, talk to our organizing teams, play dominoes, eat pastelitos, and take part in community storytelling, as we prepare to take action in 2024. Please come regardless of your organizing experience!
